After 5 very long years of schlepping clothes to flea markets, the post office, multiple shop locations, all the way to Manhattan, digging in the dirt to buy the best stuff, paying ridiculous amounts of money to buy large lots of fluffy garments, dealing with the worst kind of customer, dealing with the best kind of customer, thousands upon thousands of emails with subjects like “your model has the prettiest belly button” to “You are the worst person in the entire world and your hair sucks and your face sucks and you have terrible taste and your shop is the worst” and “give me advice and tricks of the trade to these 20 questions I have please and spend like an hour in back-and-forth conversations with me”, and literally losing sleep over clothes, I have to go ahead and tell y’all that I am physically and emotionally WORN THE FUCK OUT.
The highs and lows of running a small business are typical, but seeing my income double last year and then halve this year is pretty nausea-inducing. Trying to keep up with the over-saturated Etsy world and basically having to BEG people to come to my shop in Nashville isn’t working. I have killer clothes, I have fair prices, I have all sizes and all decades. So. What’s a girl to do? Haven’t figured it out yet but I have bills to pay. I’m having a 50% OFF SALE in the Etsy shop. After I clear out some of the clutter and take a little break, I hope to come back with a better, prettier version of what I’ve always done.
